President’s Message – September, 2026

by | Sep 1, 2026 | Uncategorized

Welcome to our new AAUW year! As the new President, I have been amazed at the enthusiasm and work ethic of our members. Throughout the summer, the new Board and Activity Leaders have been planning our upcoming year together. We have exciting events and programs planned.

As a relatively new member, I have enjoyed meeting the many women involved in the branch. But, just as important, I am enthusiastic about our new members who are stepping up to take an active role in our branch. My goal, as President, is to get to know our members, making sure that everyone understands what they mean to our branch. Every organization has those members who are actively involved in many projects. The goal is to reach out to those members who only attend occasionally to make sure that they feel welcome and appreciate the opportunities to engage with our very active branch.

What makes the branch unique is the many ways you can become involved. Obviously, there are the monthly meetings that highlight our philanthropic outreach, i.e., Tech Trek, STEM scholars and Scholarships. But there are also the meetings that provide educational opportunities. This year our focus will be Reaching Out to Our Community.”  This will allow us to learn more about the other non-profits in the Stanwood Camano area, the causes they serve, and provide them the opportunity to get to know us!

Then there are the gatherings that allow us to not only learn together but get to know each other on a personal level. The Book Group meets monthly and always includes lively discussions. Java Break is just that – a chance to take a break and meet other members.  Sharing a movie is another way to get to know each other. Working together to plan for scholarships, Tech Trek, and STEM scholars allows us to use our talents to help others. Of course, this year we must start thinking about how to raise funds for these activities. The highlights of the year are always our “Day Tripper” activities that provide planned social opportunities. One thing is certain, you’ll always learn something.

My goal this year is to create a welcoming environment for all our members, starting with you!
